WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest forward Devin Thomas has accepted an invitation from the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Committee to attend the 2013 USA Basketball Men's U19 World Championship Team training camp, as announced by USA Basketball on Wednesday.
The training camp, which will be held June 14-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., will be used to select the 12-member team that will represent the USA at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship. Finalists are expected to be announced on June 16 with the official 12-man roster announced two days later.
Thomas, a rising sophomore in 2013-14, was one of the most productive freshmen in the ACC this past season. He averaged just short of a double-double in conference play at 10.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game to go with 1.5 blocks and a shooting percentage of 51.8 percent.
Overall, Thomas averaged 9.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 49.8 percent on the year to earn ACC All-Freshman honors.
The Harrisburg, Pa. native led all ACC freshmen in rebounding and blocked shots, ranking sixth overall in the conference in each category.
Thomas posted three double-doubles in conference play, including a performance against NC State that saw him finish with 25 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and three steals. His game against NC State, which led Wake Forest to an 86-84 upset of the then No. 18-ranked Wolfpack, earned him ACC Rookie of the Week honors on Jan. 28.
The stat stuffer Thomas led the Deacons in rebounding and blocked shots (43) and ranked third in scoring and steals (32) and fourth in assists (41). He scored in double figures in 14 games, including five of the final six games of the year.
