Chapel Hill, NC - North Carolina is investigating whether a former college basketball player has improper ties to Tar Heels leading scorer P.J. Hairston or any other UNC athlete.
Athletic director Bubba Cunningham said Saturday that the school began looking into Rodney Blackstock shortly after USA Today reported in May that AAU coach Darius Cobb said he received $10,000 to steer former Kansas guard Ben McLemore to him as a client. Blackstock is the founder and CEO of Hooplife Academy in Greensboro, N.C. -- Hairston's hometown.
Cunningham says the school's probe is "to see if there's cause for concern" regarding any potential rules violations, such as an agent or runner providing an athlete with improper benefits.
