Winston-Salem State Ranked 6th, 11th In Preseason Magazine Polls

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The preseason football magazines have begun to hit the bookshelves, and the Winston-Salem State University Rams have been selected sixth Lindy's Football Annual Division II preseason poll and 11th by The Sporting News leading up to the 2013 season.

WSSU is coming off the most successful football season in school, conference and HBCU history with 14 wins, and played in the NCAA Division II National Championship game, falling to Valdosta State.

Valdosta State grabbed the preseason No. 1 spot in the Lindy's poll with West Texas A&M ranked second. WSSU defeated West Texas A&M 41-18 in the national semi- finals played at Bowman Gray Stadium.

Minnesota State is the No. 1 team in the Sporting News preseason poll with Shippensburg second followed by West Texas A&M and Valdosta State. The Rams defeated Shippensburg (37-14) in the second round of the 2013 NCAA DII Playoffs. Tuskegee, the WSSU Rams opponent in the 2013 Cleveland Classic, is ranked 19th by The Sporting News.

The Rams will open their season on a Thursday night at UNC Pembroke on Sept. 5 at 8 p.m.
