WSSU Chosen To Three-Peat; Five Players Selected To Preseason All-CIAA Team

WINSTON-SALEM, NC- The Winston-Salem State University Rams were chosen to three-peat as Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association champions on Thursday, during the CIAA Football Media Day held inside the Donald J. Reaves Student Activities Center on the campus of Winston-Salem State University.

The WSSU Rams coming off the most successful season in HBCU history, finishing 14-1 and playing in the NCAA Division II National Championship game, are followed in the preseason predicted order of finish is: Elizabeth City State, St. Augustine's, Chowan, Shaw, Bowie State, Johnson C. Smith, Virginia Union, Fayetteville State, Virginia State, Livingstone and Lincoln (Pa).

Also announced at the CIAA Football Media Day was the preseason All-CIAA team and the Rams had five players selected to the squad. On offense, offensive linemen Christopher Bearden (6-7, 315, Sr, Decatur, GA) and Nathaniel Hartung (6-2, 380, Sr, Butler, PA), along with running back Maurice Lewis (5-11, 190, Jr, Lumberton, NC) were selected to the team. Defensively, linebacker and 2012 Defensive Player of the Year, Carlos Fields Jr (6-2, 235, Sr, Henderson, NC) and defensive lineman Donnie Owens (6-3, 295, Sr, Fayetteville, NC) were chosen to represent the WSSU Rams.
