WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest will open the 2013 Battle 4 Atlantis tournament against Kanas on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 3:30 p.m. EST at the Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas.
The Demon Deacons' opening game will be televised live on AXS TV. All afternoon games (1:00 and 3:30) during the three-day tournament will air on AXS, while the evening games (7:00 and 9:30) will air on the NBC Sports Network.
Wake Forest will face either Villanova or USC on the second day of the tournament on Friday. The winners bracket game will be at 9:30 p.m., while the losers bracket game will tip off at 3:30 p.m. On the final day of the event on Saturday, the Deacons will face Iowa, Tennessee, UTEP or Xavier.
Wake Forest will host The Citadel on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the LJVM Coliseum as a play-in game to start the tournament.
Wake Forest and Kansas have split four previous meetings on the hardwood. Most recently, the teams split a home-and-home series during the 2001 and 2002 seasons, with each squad winning on their home court. The Deacons and Jayhawks have also split NCAA Tournament matchups, with Wake Forest winning in 1984 and Kansas winning in the 1994 Elite Eight.
Kansas will return 10 letterwinners from last season's squad that finished 31-6 and won its ninth-straight Big 12 championship. The Jayhawks are ranked as high as fifth in the 2013-14 national preseason polls.
AXS TV is available nationally on DIRECTV (channel 306), Dish (channel 131), AT&T U-Verse (channel 1106), Verizon FiOS (channel 569) as well as Charter, Comcast Xfinity, Insight, Suddenlink and other TV providers.
This will mark Wake Forest's first-ever appearance in the Battle 4 Atlantis. ACC rival Duke won last year's tournament, while fellow ACC foe Florida State took fourth place in the tournament in 2011.
The Deacons will be playing in the Caribbean for the second-straight season after participating in the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands this past November. Wake Forest will be returning to Nassau, Bahamas, for the first time since playing two preseason games there prior to the 2006-07 season.
The Battle 4 Atlantis games are played in the Imperial Arena, a grand ballroom which is turned into a basketball venue. The half-million dollar temporary stadium boasts state-of-the-art regulation facilities at the epicenter of the world's largest open-air marine habitat complete with lavish guest accommodations, restaurants, bars, spa, lounges, waterslides and the largest casino in the Bahamas. The event drew more than 4,000 fans to the 2012 championship game.
