Brooklyn, NY - The Brooklyn Nets will hold training camp for the 2013-14 season on the campus of Duke University, Nets General Manager and former Blue Devil standout Billy King announced today. The Nets will travel to Duke on September 30, following Media Day in Brooklyn, and conduct practices at the Michael W. Krzyzewski Center - Dedicated to Academic & Athletic Excellence from October 1-5, before returning to Brooklyn.
"With many new players and a new staff, going on the road for training camp will offer a unique opportunity for our players to bond and focus solely on basketball as they prepare for this season." said King. "Duke University offers first class basketball facilities and will provide an optimum training environment for our team."
Further information regarding Media Day as well as training camp practice and media availability schedules, will be released at a future date.
The Nets roster has several connections to Duke in addition to King, who was the 1988 National Defensive Player of the Year as a senior for the Blue Devils. Mason Plumlee, a consensus second team All-America last season, was selected No. 22 overall by Nets in the 2013 NBA Draft, while former Duke commit Shaun Livingston since with Brooklyn in the offseason. Livingston committed to Duke out of high school before electing to bypass college and enter the 2004 NBA Draft.
Nets head coach Jason Kidd as well as All-Star point guard Deron Williams are also familiar to the Duke program after playing for Mike Krzyzewski with the USA Men's Senior National Team. Kidd was a member of the 2008 Olympic gold medal team, while Williams won gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
Chris Carrawell, the 2000 ACC Player of the Year, is also employed by the franchise as an assistant coach for the NBDL-affiliated Springfield Armor.
