DURHAM, N.C. - Duke received the No. 2 seed in the 2013 NIT Season Tip-Off, as announced today by NIT selection committee chair C.M. Newton.
Duke will host its first two tournament matchups in Cameron Indoor Stadium, opening against UNC Asheville on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. on ESPNU followed by a contest against the winner of seventh-seeded East Carolina and Norfolk State on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.
With a second-round victory, Duke will move on to the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinal matchup in Madison Square Garden on Nov. 27. Duke will face the advancing team from a group that includes No. 3 seed Alabama, Stillman College, Georgia State and McNeese State.
The NIT Season Tip-Off championship game will take place Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
Arizona earned the No. 1 seed for the tournament, while Rutgers occupies the top placement in the remaining quadrant with the No. 4 overall seed. No. 5 seed Rhode Island, No. 6 seed Elon, and No. 8 seed Drexel round out the remaining top eight seeds.
Duke has won three consecutive Preseason NIT tournaments, including most recently in 2009 when the Blue Devils knocked off No. 13 Connecticut 68-59 in the championship game. Duke is 75-15 (.833) in regular season tournament play under head coach Mike Krzyzewski and has won 23 consecutive regular season tournament games. The Blue Devils have won six consecutive in-season tournaments since 2007.
Returning to the starting lineup for Duke in 2013-14 are junior All-ACC point guard Quinn Cook and sophomore All-ACC Freshman guard Rasheed Sulaimon. Seniors Josh Hairston and Tyler Thornton and sophomore Amile Jefferson also boast starting experience from last year's squad, while redshirt sophomore Rodney Hood - who sat out the 2012-13 after transferring from Mississippi State - and a freshman class that includes top recruits Matt Jones, Semi Ojeleye and Jabari Parker are all expected to contribute in their first seasons at Duke.
