ELON, N.C. -- The Elon football team still has three games remaining in its 2013 season, but the inaugural league schedule for the Phoenix's first year as a member of CAA Football has been announced by the league.
"This is an exciting time for the student-athletes in our football program," said Elon Director of Athletics Dave Blank. "While we still have to conclude our final season as a member of the Southern Conference, we eagerly anticipate our first year as a member of CAA Football. The league schedule will be very exciting for our fans and is comprised of programs which have been very successful nationally over the years. Additionally, our new CAA footprint should create excellent chances for our alumni to get well-connected with the university through the football program."
Elon's first season CAA Football contest will come on Oct. 4, as the maroon and gold will host the New Hampshire Wildcats. The Phoenix will also play host to new league rivals Stony Brook (Oct. 18), Richmond (Oct. 25) and Maine (Nov. 15).
Delaware will be the opponent in Elon's first road conference match-up on Oct. 11. Trips to Towson (Nov. 1), William & Mary (Nov. 8) and the regular season finale at James Madison (Nov. 22) also await the Phoenix in 2014.
In 2014, Elon will not face league members Albany, Rhode Island or Villanova.
Elon has been playing football for over 90 seasons and will be facing Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire and William & Mary for the first time.
The maroon and gold has played Richmond four times, more than any of the other CAA Football institutions that it will battle in 2014. Elon has also taken on Towson three times and both Stony Brook and James Madison twice.
Elon's full 2014 football schedule will be announced in February.
