ASHEVILLE -- The North Carolina A&T women's basketball team secured its best start in school history with an impressive 83-57 win over UNC Asheville at Kimmel Arena Tuesday night. Tracy King led five Aggies in double figures with 15 points. She also added six assists and four steals. Christina Carter and Debbie Smith had 14 apiece with Carter adding five assists to her totals.
The win gives A&T (7-1) its seventh straight and it eclipses their 6-1 start from the 2007-08 season. The Aggies held the Bulldogs (4-6) to just 33 percent shooting while shooting 64 percent from the floor thanks to a 42-18 advantage in the paint. The Aggies led by just four, 29-25, with four minutes remaining in the first half. But four straight free throws and a layup in transition by Debbie Smith put the Aggies ahead by 10. King added a 3-pointer to help the Aggies go into the locker room ahead 40-29.
The Aggies return to action Saturday as they travel to Washington, D.C., to face George Washington at noon.
