DURHAM, N.C. - Duke freshman forward Jabari Parker was named ACC Freshman of the Week for the league-leading fifth time this season after helping Duke to ACC wins over Miami and Florida State this past week.
Parker, a 6-8, 235-pound native of Chicago, Ill., averaged team highs of 15.5 points and 14.5 rebounds while posting back-to-back double-doubles as Duke ran its win streak to four in a row and improved to 16-4 overall and 5-2 in the ACC. He added three blocks and three steals in the process while helping head coach Mike Krzyzewski record his milestone 900th career win at Duke.
Against Miami on Wednesday, Parker totaled 17 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and three blocks in a 67-46 victory in Coral Gables, Fla. Six of his boards were on the offensive glass as Duke outrebounded the Hurricanes 42-28.
Parker continued his dominance on the glass Saturday against Florida State, scoring 14 points with 14 rebounds and three steals in a 78-56 victory in Cameron Indoor Stadium that made Coach K only the second coach in NCAA Division I history to record 900 wins at one school. Parker made some history of his own that day, matching the Coach K-era record of 10 offensive rebounds record previously set by Elton Brand on Feb. 17, 1999.
Through 20 games, Parker leads Duke with 18.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, both totals that rank among the top five in the ACC. He is also the team leader with 23 blocks while shooting .471 (131-of-278) from the field and .386 (27-of-70) from three-point range.
