Wake Forest Baseball Picked Sixth In Atlantic Division

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest baseball was picked sixth in the ACC's Atlantic Division in the 2014 ACC Coaches Preseason Poll as announced by the conference office on Friday.

Wake Forest earned 37 points in the voting ahead of Boston College (17). Florida State was picked to win the Atlantic Division with 93 points, followed closely by Clemson with 88 points. Virginia was tabbed as the ACC preseason favorite to win the conference and the Coastal Division as the Cavaliers picked up 96 total points and 10 first-place votes. The Seminoles earned four first-place votes.

The Demon Deacons finished fifth last year in the Atlantic Division with a 28-27 overall record and a 9-20 mark in the ACC.

Wake Forest also held its first official practice of the 2014 season on Friday afternoon at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Demon Deacons will practice twice over the weekend with an off-day on Monday. There will be 18 practice sessions in total before the season opener on Feb. 14 against Towson at Wake Forest Baseball Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Fans will have several opportunities to see the Demon Deacons at home through the month of February as Wake Forest plays eight total home games during the first month of play. Wake Forest plays at home for 10 out of the first 12 games to begin the season.

Several ACC series highlight the home schedule as the Deacs host Clemson in March along with Maryland, Florida State and Duke in April. Virginia will come to Winston-Salem for the final series of the year in May.

Wake Forest returns several starters from last season including infielder Conor Keniry, outfielder Evan Stephens and pitcher Jack Fischer. Other top returners include Jack Carey, Kevin Jordan, Charlie Morgan and Matt Conway.

The 2014 ACC Baseball Championship is set for May 20-25 at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C.
