WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest point guard Chelsea Douglas has signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Storm of the WNBA.
Douglas was not drafted in the three-round WNBA Draft Monday evening but signed with Seattle shortly after.
"It's a dream come true," said Douglas. "This was something I've been working a long time for and to get an opportunity, it's more than I could ask. Seattle is a great team and they seem pretty interested in me so I'm ready to go."
Douglas reports to Seattle's training camp on Sunday, April 27, and the first preseason game is schedule for Sunday, May 11. The season-opener is Friday, May 16, against Los Angeles.
The Rock Hill, S.C. native finished her Wake Forest career as the school's fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,656 points. She is also second in three-pointers made with 257 and seventh in assists with 360. Douglas is one of just three Demon Deacons to record more than 1,600 points and 350 assists in a career. She scored 990 points over her final two seasons and is the only player in school history to earn ACC All-Tournament Team honors twice.
This season, Douglas averaged a career-high 18.6 points per game and led the ACC in three-pointers made per game. She scored a school-record 48 points and made a school and ACC-record nine three-pointers in the win over FIU on Dec. 29, and would be named the FIU Sun & Fun Classic MVP.
Douglas is looking to become just the second Demon Deacon to play in the WNBA. Nicole Levesque played in the inaugural season with Charlotte Sting in 1997.
