N.C. State is looking to start its college basketball season better than it did last year, when it lost starting guard Terry Henderson for the season seven minutes into the season in a 85-68 loss to William and Mary.
Unfortunately for the Wolfpack, they never recovered from a disastrous opening-night and missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five seasons. However, the arrival of heralded recruit Dennis Smith Jr. coupled with the return of Henderson, Maverick Rowan and Abdul-Malik Abu have State eyeing a return to the big dance. NCSU released its 2016-2017 schedule Monday.
Looking at the schedule, the Wolfpack only play conference mainstays Duke, Notre Dame and Virginia once. The traditional home-and-home with rival UNC remain and home dates with returning Final Four team Syracuse and Virginia are circled on the calendar.
Illinois is the ACC/Big Ten Challenge opponent for State on Nov. 29 on the road. State begins conference play Dec. 31 at Miami with a 4:30 tip. The early-season slate is highlighted by the Paradise Jam Tournament at the Virgin Islands the week before Thanksgiving.
Here's the complete schedule for State, looking to bounce back from a 16-17 season. This season begins Nov. 11 against Georgia Southern at PNC Arena.
