USGA picks sites for first two Four-Ball championships

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - The United States Golf Association announced on Monday that it has chosen sites for the first two men's and women's Four-Ball championships.

The first two men's Four-Ball championships will take place at the Olympic Club and Winged Foot.

At the Olympic Club, the stroke play rounds will be played on the Lake and Ocean Courses, before the Lake Course hosts the match play rounds. The East and West Courses at Winged Foot will be used for the stroke play portion of the championship, and the East Course will host the match play.

For the women's Four-Ball, Bandon Dunes will host the first year with the Bandon Dunes Course hosting the match play portion. The resort will be hosting its fifth USGA championship.

In 2016, the women's Four-Ball will be contested at the Streamsong Resort, which will host its first USGA championship. The Red and Blue Courses will be used for stroke play with the match play being contested on the Blue Course.

The 2015 championships will be played from April 30 - May 6, while the 2016 championships will be contested from May 19-25.

The men's and women's Four-Ball championships are the first new events on the USGA schedule in over 25 years. They were added when it was announced that the Amateur Public Links titles will be retired after 2014.

The Four-Ball championships will be limited to amateurs with a handicap index better than 5.4 for men and 14.4 for women. There will be no age restrictions.

Fields will consist of 128 two-player teams, which will be cut to the low 32 teams for the match play portion of the championship. Qualifying in some states will start as soon as 2014 and will run for 7 1/2 months leading into the championship.
