Harry Giles III Talks UNC & Duke Visits, Coaches Trying To Snapchat & More

Harry Giles III missed the entire 2013-14 season recovering from ACL, MCL and meniscus tears; since then he's dominated the AAU scene and helped lead the USA U17 team to the gold medal in Dubai. Giles, who is ranked No. 3 in the ESPN 60, is widely regarded as one of the country's top players, regardless of class, with college basketball heavyweights like North Carolina, Kentucky and Duke, among many others, all giving chase. Giles has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.

Aye, what's up world, it's Harry Giles back at it again with the new blog, and I'm excited because it's about time to get it poppin' now that our season started up!

Our first official practice was on Monday and all of us were hype about getting started.

I'm definitely a lot more focused this year because I'm the leader on the team; I'm not the youngin' or the foot soldier anymore!

I've got to step up this season and lead the team and get my teammates in positions where they can do their thing too. Then I'm the guy that they fall back on so I've gotta be strong.

It's a different role for me, but I feel like I'm a natural leader anyway so it's not hard at all for me.

I know everyone wants to know about my recruitment and, to be honest, I have been thinking about cutting my list and focusing on a specific amount of schools. I don't know how many that'll be or what I'll cut it to; I don't even know when but I am starting to think about it more and more.

I went to UNC's Late Night event and that was real cool; I had a lot of fun. They do a lot of funny skits and stuff like that. Then of course I saw my boy Theo (Pinson) out there and it was crazy to see him out there playing for them. He's out there living his dream so I was happy to get to see that.

Last weekend I went to Duke's Countdown to Craziness and that was just live.

The whole atmosphere was crazy and I had a great time!

I definitely want to take a few visits when the season starts too.

I would love to have a decision before my senior season starts so I can just focus on being a senior and doing my thing in school and getting better on the court. I feel like it'd be a load off not having to worry about all that, but if I don't have a decision by then, hey, it is what it is!

The whole process is cool, mostly because I get to keep in touch with all of the coaches and get to know them. Coach Boeheim came to my school a couple of weeks ago and it was real cool. He came early, right after school so not as many students knew that he was there.

He's a really good guy.

Sometimes coaches say some crazy stuff though!

I had one coach ask me one time if I had Snapchat! Haha!

I couldn't believe it. I told him I didn't have one, but I actually do; it's something that me and my friends have fun with sometimes.

I just didn't think coaches were on Snapchat like that. I was like "Really?!?!"

School is cool and my grades are good too! I'm just trying to increase my GPA every period; that's my goal! Yeah, I've got those goals in the classroom too!

Y'all know I've gotta let y'all know what's hot in music right now too and that new Big Sean is hot! Definitely check that out.

I can't wait for college basketball and the NBA seasons to start!

I think the early favorites for the NBA title are the Spurs; you can never count them out, then the Cavs are looking really good. Plus, Derrick Rose looks like he's back so you've gotta like the Bulls too.

In college basketball I think Kentucky is gonna be crazy! They're stacked from the first player to the last player. I think Duke is gonna be real, real good too! And I think Carolina can possibly be a sleeper. Kansas will be good too!

I think between those schools you'll probably get the national champ.

We'll see though!

OK, it's Harry Giles and that's another blog in the books for y'all.

We're finally at the time of the year that everyone's been waiting on so just sit back and enjoy the ride; we're gonna give y'all a good show!
