NC State Pitcher Rodon Starts MLB Career With Dash

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Chicago White Sox announced the signing of left-hander Carlos Rodon, their first-round pick (third overall) in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, to a minor-league contract on Friday.

Rodon will be working out with the Winston-Salem Dash until traveling to Chicago for a formal introduction and press conference on July 18 at U.S. Cellular Field.

Rodon will not be added to the Dash's active roster and will not available to the media during his time with Winston-Salem. His first official press conference as a member of the White Sox organization will be next week in Chicago.

The Dash open up a four-game series on the road against the Carolina Mudcats on Friday night at 7.

The Chicago White Sox have announced their signing of left-hander Carlos Rodon, the third overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft.

On June 5, Rodon became the highest White Sox draftee since the franchise selected Harold Baines with the top pick in 1977. He finished his collegiate career with a 25-10 record to go along with a 2.24 earned run average.

The Holly Springs, N.C., native's 436 career strikeouts represent an NC State record, and he is one of four pitchers in ACC history to record more than 400 strikeouts. Rodon guided the Wolfpack to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and 2013. He became the first freshman to ever win ACC Pitcher of the Year in 2012. One year later, Rodon led the program to its first College World Series appearance since 1968.

This past season, Rodon finished his NC State career strongly by posting a 6-7 record and a 2.01 earned run average in 14 starts. He whiffed 117 batters over 98.2 innings of work.

The Dash currently sit one game back of first place in the Southern Division's second half standings. Winston-Salem opens a four-game set at Carolina before returning home for a three-game series with Myrtle Beach on Wednesday at BB&T Ballpark. For Dash seats, call (336) 714-2287 or visit
