Carolina Panthers Sign Draft Picks Boston & Benwikere

Charlotte---The Carolina Panthers have signed 2014 fourth-round draft choice (128th overall) safety Tre Boston and fifth-round draft choice (148th overall) cornerback Benè Benwikere, the team announced Tuesday.

Boston played in 48 games with 40 starts in four seasons (2010-2013) at North Carolina. Boston led or tied for the team lead in interceptions three times and twice paced the team in tackles. He finished his career third in school history with 13 interceptions. As a senior in 2013, Boston earned second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors after starting 13 games and ranking first on the Tar Heels with 94 tackles, five interceptions and 13 passes defensed.

Benwikere was a two-time all-conference selection and twice led San Jose State in interceptions. He played in 47 games with 30 starts in four seasons (2010-13) with the Spartans, finishing his career tied for first in school history with 14 interceptions. In his final season at San Jose State, Benwikere earned first-team All-Mountain West Conference honors and paced the Spartans with five interceptions and 11 passes defensed.

The Panthers also signed linebacker Billy Boyko. Boyko, 6-2 and 240 pounds, joins the Panthers following his participation on a tryout basis at the team's minicamp, May 16-17. He previously spent time with the Oakland Raiders during the 2013 preseason.
