GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Trent Phillips took down defending champion Eugene Hong in a playoff to win the 2017 AJGA Haas Family Invitational.
The Invitational, at Sedgefield Country Club, featured some of the world's top junior golfers.
In the end, Phillips and Hong were tied at the top of the leaderboard at minus-6, forcing a playoff on hole 18.
Hong hit an approach shot from the fairway that landed on the edge of the green; Phillips hit a shot that landed just feet away from the cup and sank the birdie putt to win the tournament.
"I tried to just keep [the ball] away from the bad spots on the greens and getting myself up for the putts, and I did that for most of the day," Phillips said. "But what a way to finish. Perfect.
When asked about beating a player like Hong, Phillips said, "It's hard to beat him; he's a phenomenal talent, and being able to beat him is pretty sweet, to be honest with you, it's really sweet."
