VA High School Female Football Starter Proves Herself On Gridiron

CHILHOWIE, VA (CNN/WCYB) -- We're getting closer by the day to WFMY News 2's Friday Football Fever! It starts Friday, August 22 right here on WFMY News 2. You don't want to miss one second of the action.

Already a high school standout is proving herself on the gridiron. But to watch her in action you'll have to travel to Virginia. Rachel Poston is a starter on the Warriors Special Teams at Chilhowie High. Poston says she started playing football in the fifth grade because she just wanted to play. Now she's earned a spot and one of the toughest positions on the team. Jeff Robinson, Head Football Coach says, "She's going to play a significant part in what we're trying to do this year. I can guarantee that."

Poston hasn't missed a weightlifting practice in two years. Her coach can vouch for her,"She bench presses 200 pounds, squats 300 pounds, and deadlifts 315 pounds. That's pretty impressive" said, Robinson.

Poston says she gets in there and works hard, "I get the chance to do the same as everyone else, I just choose to work harder because I want to be committed to the team, and I want to see the team do well."

She also says her teammates have become like brothers two her on the gridiron.
