RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. -- If you've ever thought you have what it takes to be a firefighter, this weekend is your chance to prove it.

The Westside Fire and Rescue Squad is hosting the Rescue Challenge 5K Saturday in Sophia. It's a 3.1-mile race with 15 obstacles to test your strength and courage. Obstacles include everything from climbing tall ladders, to jumping through windows, to taking a plunge in ice-cold water.

If this sounds like something for you, there's still time to register.

Proceeds from the race will go toward scholarships for people seeking associate degrees in emergency services.

This is Westside's first year hosting the event. The Westside Fire and Rescue Squad is a combination volunteer fire department made of three fire stations in Randolph County.

For more information about the squad or this weekend's race, head to the Rescue Challenge website.

WFMY News 2's Patrick Wright tried his hand at some of the obstacles. Be sure to tune in to the Good Morning Show to see how he did.
