GREENSBORO, N.C. - We've seen situations around the country where there is a divide between law enforcement and the community. Here in the Triad, the Guilford County Sheriff's Office is offering a way to close that gap through their upcoming Fall 2014 Citizens Academy. The free courses are offered to the community members and will give them the opportunity to understand how law enforcement agencies function.

Some of the subjects taught in the courses are as followed:

  • Criminal justice
  • Laws of arrest, search and seizure
  • Detention operations and tour
  • Gangs
  • Firearms simulator training
  • Computer crimes
  • Use of force

Weekly classes begin on August 28, 2014, and run for 21 weeks.

If you are interested in enrolling then visit the Sheriff's Office website for an application packet and schedule. You can also contact MCpl. Jackson at (336) 641-5313 or Cpl. Herndon at (336) 641-3378.

The deadline to enroll in the Academy was originally Friday, August 22, 2014. However, the Sheriff's Office extended that deadline to Tuesday, August 26, 2014.
