It took 43 attempts to perfect the CHA! recipe
Winston-Salem, NC -- The maker of popular Texas Pete hot sauce continues to create new offerings at its headquarters in Winston-Salem. TW Garner Food Company executives recently gave WFMY News 2's Julie Luck a tour to show its newest product, CHA! By Texas Pete, being made.
Texas Pete hot sauce is the number three brand of hot sauce in the United States. "They're shipped all over the world. We're in 22 countries now to the far reaches of the earth, really," said Steve DeCorte, general manager of sales.
TW Garner started in 1929 making barbecue sauce at its facility, where the Garner family house once stood. Many things have changed over the years. The company no longer makes its original barbecue sauce but it now makes 60 different sauces, including hot sauces and wing sauces.
The newest addition is CHA! By Texas Pete. CHA! is a sriracha sauce named after a town in Thailand. The authentic hot sauce is made of only six ingredients including chili peppers, sugar, garlic, and salt. Cha! debuted six months ago but took the company more than a year to develop. In fact, it took more than 40 attempts to perfect the CHA! recipe.
So what CHA put it on? (pun intended) "It can be used for a topping for pizza, used in sushi. "It's very versatile, that bold balanced flavor people are looking for," said DeCorte. You can also add CHA! to soups, noodles, pasta, burgers, hot dogs and ketchup for french fries.
TW Garner employs about 100 people and the workforce is expected to expand 15% in the next decade. While the company continues to introduce new products, its core remains the same. It has been family-owned for generations, specializing in a market that's red hot.
"We call it CHA! By Texas Pete because it announces our 85 year heritage in the pepper businesses."
Just one month ago, TW Garner started making individual sized packets of CHA! for diners on the go.
You can find CHA! By Texas Pete at major grocery stores in the Triad including Lowes Foods, Harris Teeter and Food Lion.
