Ben Briscoe is an award winning investigative reporter with a history of helping change laws and stopping illegal uses of your tax dollars. His main goal every day is to help make the community a better place, and that's why he's thrilled to join WFMY as we launch the 2 Wants to Know newscast at 5:30 pm.
Ben started reporting 10 years ago for a newspaper in his small Texas hometown. From there, he's worked in Amarillo, Dallas, Reno and now the Triad. Having last lived in the Nevada desert, Ben's excited to be around North Carolina's lush plant life. He says the kind people here also make the move an easy change.
Ben hates sitting at home, so you'll probably run into him at different festivals, great restaurants or working with volunteer groups. If you know of a place he should check out, or a great idea for his next investigation, tweet him @watchdogben or by e-mail.
Q&A with Ben Briscoe
What's your favorite story you've done?
Early on, I did an investigation about a medical examiner who lied on his resume and in testimony at trials. My piece was picked up nationally and two innocent people were set free from murder charges because of what we uncovered. That solidified my love for investigative reporting. I instantly knew this was the right career for me.
What's your biggest pet peeve?
People who complain about something, but won't take action to change things.
What are your hobbies?
My favorite way to spend a day is wandering around town exploring new places. That's especially true if my Yorkie, Henry, can tag along for a nice stroll outside.
If you weren't on television news, what would you do for a living?
I'd be a reality TV show writer. Someone has to piece together all that drama!
