WHEAT RIDGE, CO -- Wheat Ridge police arrested a man Wednesday they say tried to kidnap a 10-year-old girl.
Police identified the man as 35-year-old Dennis Willmore Jr. He is a registered sex offender living in Wheat Ridge.
Police say the girl was walking her dog down an alley behind West 29th Avenue and chase Street Wednesday afternoon when Willmore grabbed her by the neck and dragged her down the alley about 40 feet.
The girl fought back, screamed and yelled which alerted neighbors. Police say Willmore let the girl go and took off on foot.
Police were able to get a description of the man which led them to a home in the area where Willmore was held up inside. He eventually gave up and was taken into custody without incident.
Willmore was transported a local hospital with minor injuries. The victim suffered minor injuries. She is expected to be OK.
Willmore's criminal record includes kidnapping and child sex assault charges from a decade ago.
9NEWS obtained Willmore's previous mugshot from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation sex offender registry. CBI announced the launch of the state's new sex offender website Wednesday.
CBI says the site will provide improved navigation, additional information and expanded search capabilities involving registered sex offenders in the state.
