Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested Angelo Smith, Jr., and charged him with murder after remains believed to be missing teacher, Bianca Tanner, were found Thursday morning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WCNC) -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police believe they have found the remains of missing Greensboro teacher, Bianca Tanner.

Police made the discovery early Thursday morning in a wooded area near the intersection on Shopton Road West and Westinghouse Boulevard. That's just 20 miles from where Tanner was last seen.

Sources are telling WFMY News 2's sister station in Charlotte, Bianca Tanner's boyfriend, Angelo Smith, admitted to killing her.

CMPD found remains they believe to belong to missing Greensboro teacher, Bianca Tanner.

The medical examiner will confirm the identity and determine the cause of death.

Police have charged Tanner's boyfriend, Angelo Grayson Smith, Jr. with murder.

"The case kind of began to unfold late [Wednesday] night, after interviewing additional witnesses to the case, that witness was able to direct us to this particular location where by a very extensive search, which began about midnight and concluded shortly before 4:30 [Thursday] morning, when we located the remains," said Chief Rodney Monroe, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Shortly after finding the remains, CMPD arrested Smith.

As Smith was being escorted from CMPD Headquarters, reporters asked him if he had anything to say to Tanner's family.

Smith responded, "I'm sorry." When asked, 'Sorry for what?' Smith answered, "I'm just sorry."

Sources tell our sister station, WCNC, Smith admitted to killing Tanner after he was told her remains were found.

During a news conference Thursday morning investigators said they have found her remains and charged Angelo Smith, Tanner's boyfriend with murder.

Tanner was last seen on Druid Circle on June 8 and was reported missing by Smith. She recently moved to Charlotte but was commuting to Greensboro to work as a second-grade teacher for Guilford County Schools at Reedy Fork Elementary.

Thursday, the principal at Reedy Fork Elementary released this statement:

"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Bianca Tanner at this sad news. She was a dedicated teacher and colleague, and her loss will be felt by those who had the privilege to know her. We will continue to keep her loved ones in our thoughts and prayers." Denise Schroeder, principal, Reedy Fork Elementary

Tanner has a 3-year-old son, who was with her in Charlotte the weekend she disappeared. The child is now in the custody of his father.
