After the business closed Mr. Starkey ate food off the shelf, grabbed some beers and soda to drink.
ASHEBORO, N.C. -- An Asheboro man claims he was locked inside of a store after police found him the next morning standing at the front doors of the Just Save.
Michael Starkey said he went into the store located on North Fayetteville Street Thursday night to use the bathroom. However after he was finished he returned but no one was inside the store. Police asked Starkey why he didn't call 911 but he said, "He did not know," according to the police report.
But police say surveillance video painted a very different picture of what happened. Apparently Starkey grabbed a box of cookies then went to the bathroom to hide out. After the business closed Starkey ate food off the shelf, grabbed some beers and soda to drink. Police also say the video showed him smoking cigarettes inside the store. Starkey also filled his pockets with sunglasses, candy bars, display cell phones, and prepaid cards.
Starkey was arrested and placed in the Randolph County Jail.
