WFMY – If you're a parent, you know eventually, you'll have to have the conversation about "the birds and the bees" with your kids.
Some parents preach abstinence, while others preach protection. But one mother's message to her son raised a lot of eyebrows when she told him to ask for a "consent text."
In an opinion piece for CNN, Roxanne Jones said she told her son, "Never have sex with a girl unless she's sent you a text that proves the sexual relationship is consensual beforehand."
According to the Department of Justice, 1 in 4 college women will be the victim of sexual assault during her academic career.
So would a consent text really clear up confusion about whether a young woman or young man is saying, "yes"?
Turns out, it has to be part of a bigger conversation. And as WFMY News 2's Lauren Melvin found out, even then, a "consent text" wouldn't necessarily hold up in court.
