LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It has been nearly 14 weeks since Richard Hudgins put on a pair of shoes and despite the brutal winter, he is still going strong.
"I was expecting last year's winter. Not all this snow," Hudgins said.
Everywhere Hudgins goes until Dec. 4, he will be barefoot for a cause that's near and dear to his heart. He said he wants to raise awareness for those less fortunate around the world who don't or aren't privileged to have a pair of shoes.
Hudgins said the last few weeks have been brutal. He has dealt with 11 snow days and multiple days with the wind chills well below zero. Hudgins describes walking in the snow as, "kind of a bruising feeling."
"It's cold, but it's for a good cause so I feel good," he said.
Hudgins said he doesn't mind the weather, he looks at it like a challenge making his cause all the more worth his time and effort.
"It's an adrenaline rush every morning you know. I open the door and it just takes my breath away. I just have to like get in the mode and just run out to the car usually on one of these really cold days," said Hudgins.
The goal for Hudgins is to raise $25,000 and so far he's raised about $1,700. He said he plans to donate the money to a ministry in Kenya. Hudgins also collects shoes - so far he has more than 50 pairs of children's shoes.
