GREENSBORO, N.C. -- You'll notice something very much child-like at the new entrance of Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

On Tuesday, children from a day care planted 300 tiny pinwheels in a garden. The pinwheels aim to raise awareness about child abuse. In 2012, an estimated 686,000 children were victims of abuse and neglect according to the National Children's Alliance.

In Rockingham County, Sheriff Sam Page joined other workers and community leaders in holding a ceremony to honor children who have fallen victim to abuse and neglect in the county. Cathy Murray, DSS Child Protective Services says they investigate about 200 cases of reported abuse and/or neglect monthly in Rockingham County.

The month of April is devoted to Child Abuse Prevention. The garden at the hospital is being built to spotlight the problem of child abuse.
