Winston-Salem, NC --A gym full of people wearingpink surprised Wake Forest Volleyball coach Heather Holmes, as she came on court for Tuesday's game.
The Dig for the Cure game is an annual event, butTuesday night students and staff held an impromptupink out in honor of Holmes, because shewas just diagnosed with breast cancer in May.
Students presented her with a "security blanket", a quiltsigned by athletes from every WFU sports teams, with uplifting words and phrases for her to turn to when she needs it. No one on the volleyball team, including Coach Holmes, knew about the impromptu pink out, and organizers say she was shocked by the unexpected pinksupport.
Megan Jessee, assistant coach with the women's soccer team, said, "a lot of times, you knowwe go our separate ways, with our own sports, and everyone's busy in their seasons and stuff, so it was sort of nice to come together at times you know for a common cause and help and support one of our family members."
