GREENSBORO, NC - More than two weeks after our area's ice storm, Guilford County Schools are still cleaning up. The biggest problem is all the down trees. Guilford School leaders said they were facing $500,000 worth of damage district wide.
"This price is a $500,000. So $500,000 worth of new equipment will not be able to be put into our schools," said Maintenance Director Gerald Greeson on March 13.
But something about that amount didn't seem right to 2 Wants to Know. So we started asking questions.
Wednesday a school district spokesperson confirmed our hunch that the $500,000 is wrong. The school district does have insurance for structural and equipment damage.
They are still submitting all the claims. But it's likely the only real cost to the district from storm cleanup will be a $10,000 deductible.
Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools also says they have an insurance plan with a $10,000 deductible.
