The cost of health insurance, under the Affordable Care Act, varies by county.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Five days and counting: That's all the time you have left to sign up for health insurance or pay a penalty under the Affordable Care Act.

So how much will you pay for a coverage plan?

It turns out, your yearly premium could vary by several hundred dollars depending on where you live.

2 Wants To Know crunched the numbers for you. And here's what we found:

A single 30-year-old, making $40,000 a year, doesn't qualify for any subsidies. So, they have to pay out of pocket.

In the Piedmont-Triad area, you'll pay the least if you live in Alamance County. The pricetag for the annual premium would be $2,867.

Folks who live in Alleghany or Wilkes County will pay the most, at $3,540 a year.

That's a $673 dollar difference!

Insurance experts said the cost is calculated based on your access to treatment options.

"When you get into more metropolitan areas you have greater competition from hospitals and doctors because there's more hospitals and doctors competing for patents whereas if you get out to the rural areas you get out to the cost so that means the insurance companies don't have as much negotiating power," said Liz Gallops, with Allegacy Insurance.

Here's what the same person would pay in other counties in our area:

Alleghany County: $3,540 per year
Wilkes County: $3,540 per year
Surry County: $3,292 per year
Yadkin County: $3,292 per year
