GREENSBORO, NC -- Yes, you're there to see the Grasshoppers players play. But what you look at more than anything is the field of green!
The grounds crew mows the field 150 times a year, that's about 450 miles on a mower! Basically, they ride from Greensboro to Jacksonville, Florida every year.
Jake Holloway is the head groundskeeper for the Hoppers. "The field is 2 acres in area. We mow at a pace of 3 mph. it takes us 1 hour to mow, therefore we mow 3 miles per day."
And to think many of us complain about mowing once a wee! What's the secret to keeping it so green? "Over the past two years we have been using an organic dry fertilizer in an attempt to 'go more green '. Our main focus has always been healthy soil. Healthy soil equals healthy turf."
2WTK asked Jake about the most common mistakes folks make with their lawns: Over fertilizing, Over watering, Impatience, Improper timing.
His recommendations to you, get soil samples. He says the soil will tell you what it needs. Do a little research and then he says you have to do the work.
