GREENSBORO, NC - When you think of identity theft, your mind goes to your finances: money, your ATM card or credit card numbers being stolen. But identity theft is much more than that and your bank numbers are not the big get.

Do you know what is? Your social security number. It is the key to the many different kinds of identity theft.

About.com put together a list of the many kinds of ID theft.

Financial: This includes opening up those new credit cards and stealing from the ones in your wallet.

Then there is Insurance ID theft. Folks use your social security number to get any and all kinds of insurance.

Next up, Medical ID theft. They use your social security number to get medical coverage and then services. And when the facilities go to collect for payment of that plastic surgery, they hunt you down!

And you're really going to love this last one. Criminal ID theft. The crook uses your social security number to steal your identity and uses the numbers to get other forms of ID. Or the common crook steals your purse or wallet and uses your driver's license number for their use. When you get pulled over for a broken tail light, the cop runs your license and registration and finds their laundry list of bad decisions.

You can't do much if your purse is stolen and the criminal gets your driver's license. But for the other ID theft situations the easiest way to keep yourself safe is to shred paperwork with your personal information. Steve Ward from Dean's Office Machines knows not all shredding is created equal.

We show you how the regular shredder makes it too easy for someone who wants to sift through your trash.

And what most of us don't see is the other forms of shredding. Ward shows the different shred forms all the way to the Level 6 which is what the Pentagon uses.

The ProShred trucks used in the 2WTK Shred-a-thons use pierce and tear technology.

So protect your identity, bring your old paper down to one of the the 2WTK Shred-a thons next week. Monday, April 28th we'll be at JR's tobacco in Burlington.

NOTE: THE TUESDAY, APRIL 29TH SHRED IN GREENSBORO HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO MONDAY, MAY 5TH 4-7PM AT FOUR SEASONS TOWN CENTRE.

Tuesday, April 29th the shred trucks will be at Greensboro's Four Seasons' Town Centre. Both events will run from 4-7pm. You can bring up to three boxes of stuff, you can bring it in bags too, whatever means you have to bring the paper. Just remember no binders. Paper clips and staples are okay. It's FREE!
