GREENSBORO, NC -- Summer means the calendar slows down, right? Not when you have kids and you're in the birthday party cycle. Piedmont Parent's Judy Midero has a different way for us to look at kid birthday parties.
"It can be overwhelming; the gifts to the kid, the good bags to the guests and parents are left with more stuff than they had before, so why not throw a party that gives back?
Piedmont Parent has "Five Ideas For Parties That Give Back" .
During our interview we looked at a few of them.
Pet Parade. Have your animal-lover encourage friends to bring a favorite stuffed animal as their guest to the party. Collect donations of pet food, toys, towels and kitty litter for the animal shelter.
Kids In The Kitchen. You invite the kids for a make your own pizza party or make the cupcakes party -- and every kid brings donations for the food bank.
"It's messy and it's fun and there is a purpose."
Literary Madness. Theme the party around a book or book series and asks guest to bring their favorite book. Donate the books to a children's hospital, shelter or school.
Back To School Birthday Bash. Ask guests to bring school supplies, backpacks or lunchboxes. Donate those items to a local nonprofit or to your child's school to pass on to children who need them.
