2 Wants To Know is always looking to see what consumers all over the nation are asking to see if there is information we should pass on to you. This one caught our attention because like so many products, what is on the box isn't what is inside.
The Consumerist.com researched a recent Google question: Does the cereal Honey Nut Cheerios contain any nuts?
And the short answer according is, no! According to The Consumerist, ground up nuts were taken out in 2006.
2WTK looked up the ingredient list for honey nut cheerios and no nuts are mentioned. What is? Natural almond flavor. There is a warning on the box for folks with almond and other tree nut allergies.
What's really interesting is the natural almond flavor doesn't really have to contain almonds and there is no explanation required on "flavor". The Consumerist report shows natural almond flavor often comes from the pits of peaches and apricots which is a waste product when the foods get processed. Peaches and apricots are relatives of the almond.
