GREENSBORO, N.C. - An internal Guilford County report obtained by 2 Wants To Know about this year's food stamp backlog reads:
"The (blacked out) told staff not to pend in NC FAST because the US Department of Agriculture would see how many overdue cases we had."
2 Wants To Know who that blackout person is. County Manager Marty Lawing says he cannot release that information because it is a confidential personal issue. He also can't tell us if that person is still employed with the County or what disciplinary action was taken.
What Lawings could say is that this person will not be considered for the new job heading the consolidated Social Services and Public Health departments.
The reason this is important is because the USDA gave millions in federal grants to the state for food stamps. And Guilford County's backlog threatened those grants earlier this year.
2 also Wants To Know what happens now? Will an outside agency come in to investigate? And how do County leaders keep this from happening again? We're working on getting those answers for you right now. And we hope to post more later Monday.
