GREENSBORO, NC -- WFMY News 2's Made in the Triad series started during the recession when a photographer at the station thought people needed a pick-me-up. He thought the best way to do that was to show how local people were dreaming big…and starting small.

For instance:

Milly's Dillies spicy green beans are packed in Rockingham County and can be purchased from the Triad to the Outerbanks in mom and pop stores.

You can find Sarah's Salsa in all Fresh Market stores. She has six varieties now and there are does not use unnatural preservatives.

BS Sauce was born when a grilling caterer wanted a sauce with no high fructose corn syrup. It is sold at Lowes Foods.

Finally, Miss Jenny's Pickles is a great success story. The pickle ladies have turned a grandmother's recipe into a business that is now worldwide.

Over the years we have done some stories twice because the business boomed. My Three Son's Pimento Cheese is one of those success stories.

Thousands of containers of pimento cheese are made every week at a facility in Greensboro. Not just any pimento cheese, but My Three Sons pimento cheese.

The first flavor the company created is Emmy's original, named after the owner's best friend's mom.

"I started eating her pimento cheese when I was 11 or 12. I just ate it and ate it and loved it," Cheryl Barnett, owner of My Three Sons said.

But making pimento cheese is Cheryl's second career. She was an orthodontist for 14 years, but she had to retire because of back problems.

Her life changed, but not her passion for pimento cheese. Her three sons encouraged her to start the business, hence the name of the company.

"I would always 100% jokingly tell people one day, I was going to open a pimento cheese factory. It has blown my mind I actually do now," she said.

My Three sons has grown considerably in its three and a half years. The all natural pimento cheese can now be found in hundreds of stores.

"In the blink of an eye, it went from 2 stores to 30 stores. Then in six months, we went to 300 stores," she said. "That's fast, that's a lot of pimento cheese."

Just don't ask her what's in it; her recipes are highly prized. Only two people know them, including Cheryl, but she will tell you what makes the perfect pimento cheese.

"For pimento cheese, true pimento cheese you have to use extra sharp cheddar cheese, you have to not put so much mayo. That's what makes it so special," she said.

Cheryl may have given up straightening teeth for a living, but her cheese is something people love to sink their teeth into.
