UNDATED -- These days, it's not a stretch to say most of us are on Facebook. And most of us are familiar with how the site works and it's constant updates. But one coming change is more than just another app for you to download. Facebook is about to change how you send messages.

The site said "Messages are moving out of the Facebook app and over to the Messenger app, so now we'll be asking people to install Messenger and start sending messages from there instead." Doesn't seem like there's much to it.

But don't forget to read the fine print! In this case, make sure you read the app permissions! When you go to install the Messenger app, you give Facebook permission to find accounts on your device, read your contacts, directly call phone numbers and read your call log. When it comes to your media, it can also test access to protected storage. And be sure to look at all the things it can do listed under 'other'. It can download files without notifying you, keep your phone from sleeping -- which impacts your battery life, and can change your network connectivity!

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide whether or not you're willing to give Facebook all that access.

If you want some other options, our news partners at USA Today came up with seven alternatives to Facebook Messenger.
