GREENSBORO, NC -- For most people, Labor Day was a day off. But the Department of Labor says "its a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country". Some of that was, and is, back-breaking work.

But as you go back to work after the holiday, we talked to chiropractor Jeremy Phillips with Elite Performance Chiropractic about common work injuries and the things you can do to prevent them.

He said a lot of it has to do with the way you sit in your workspace. "A patient will come in with neck, posterior shoulder pain and a lot of time what we have figured out is maybe the patient is sitting to high or too low at their desk, so they're having to reach up or down at the computer and it's just not sitting them up in a comfortable position. They may not realize it, but hours on end of this will can add up to a lot of muscles firing unnecessarily. With a little treatment to get them over that as well as education... {...} let's look at your desk, let's lower that, let's raise this, get your body sitting at a more comfortable state and a lot of times their pain will go away."

If you don't sit at a desk all day, Phillips also says to make sure you lift with your knees not bend over to pick up heavy objects.
