ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office unveiled their new Medicine Drop Box campaign Monday to help promote safe medication practices.

The Sheriff's Office held a ribbon cutting Monday morning to kick off the Project Lazarus program which addresses the dangers surrounding the misuse of pain medications and unintentional overdoses.

Items that are accepted at the drop boxes include expired or unwanted prescription medications, unknown tablets or capsules, unwanted over-the-counter medications, and veterinary medications.

Deputies say no questions will be asked when medications are dropped off.

Items that are not accepted include liquids, thermometers, needles or syringes, medical waste or any type, non-medical chemicals of any type, and bathroom products (such as personal hygiene items).
