DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. -- Davie County Deputy Christopher Fleming returned to work Monday after he was injured during a hostage situation on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014.
Sheriff Andy Stokes said he accidentally shot Fleming in the shoulder during the situation.
Stokes said during the hostage situation the 19-year-old suspect, Nicholas Tilley shot and killed K-9 Officer Gorky.
According to Stokes, five deputies and the dog had gone into the house after 19-year-old Nicholas Tilley.
Fleming ran into a side room and tried to jump through the window to get out.
Stokes was on the front porch. Stokes said when he heard the glass break, he instinctively fired his gun. Stokes thought it was Nicholas Tilley looking to fire at him.
Two hours later, Tilley eventually surrendered.
