KERNERSVILLE, N.C. -- The first piece of the Carolina Field Of Honor Memorial went up Wednesday.
"I'm very proud and very elated, very honored to be from this area that they think enough of veterans to consider doing this," Clyde Dungee a Marine Corps Vet said. "It means something to veterans all over the country, but especially those in this area."
The Field Of Honor is expected to open Memorial Day weekend.
It took 6 years of planning before the ground breaking took place Friday Sept. 20, 2013. It cost almost $5 million to get the project going.
