The city's Criminal Investigations Division has assumed the investigation into the house fire that killed one person Saturday morning on Williams street.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- One person is dead and many people are displaced following two fires Saturday morning.

IAFF Local 682 in Winston-Salem told WFMY NEWS 2 they responded to a working house fire on Dunbar Street around 7 a.m.

Firefighters said all of the occupants were able to get out of the house in time.

Heavy structural damage was reported and firefighters say four children and one adult have been displaced.

A little after 9 a.m. firefighters said they arrived to a home at 1020 William Drive and saw heavy smoke coming from the residence.

Firefighters told WFMY News 2 one person did not make it out of the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials with the Winston-Salem Fire Department identified the deceased as a young girl.

Ten people were displaced from the residence and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Saturday night, Winston-Salem Police say they have assumed investigation into the fatality on William Drive.
