GREENSBORO, NC-- A truck driver with Triad Towing was severely hurt on Monday afternoon when a car lost control and hit him on the side of the road.

Tony Williams was injured while cleaning up a traffic accident on I-85 near the 220 exit. Tony's brother said a driver sped through the accident scene, lost control in the icy conditions, and hit Tony.

Tony's wife, Jennifer said he was just about finished the job and was reaching into the vehicle he was towing to put it in neutral when the car crashed.

NC State Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Knox said the car crashed into the vehicle Tony was towing. Then Tony was thrown over a guardrail. The driver did not slow down or move over.

Tony's wife, Jennifer Williams told WFMY News 2's Liz Crawford that Tony has two broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and on Wednesday, he had chest tubes installed to keep his lung from collapsing again.

Tony is recovering in Moses Cone Hospital.

In October 2012, NC lawmakers expanded its Move Over Law. The law now includes utility and road maintenance vehicles.

The fine for disobeying the Move Over Law is $250. It could be $500 if you damage property, and you could be cited with a misdemeanor or felony if you injure or kill someone.
