Wake Forest students resorted to their celebratory tradition of "rolling the quad" after Coach Bzdelik's resignation.
Usually when Wake students roll the quad, it's after a big win, the unforgettable victories like when they beat Duke earlier this month. This time was different.WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Wake Forest students resorted to their celebratory tradition of "rolling the quad" after Coach Bzdelik's resignation.
"Everyone was getting out here. Everyone was having fun. I think everyone is excited for some change," said Tyler Sweeney, a Wake Forest sophomore.
Kevin Dillon, a Wake Forest sophomore said, "There's no doubt it's pretty disrespectful to the coach but you know what? I think it just shows that we have passionate fans here at Wake Forest. It's good to see people care."
Not all fans welcomed rolling the quad.
Mark Gigliotti, a Wake fan said, "I was disappointed and a little upset. Everybody's allowed to do what they want to do but I think it's a little disrespectful."
Outward displays of disapproval for Bzdelik have been going on for a while. Last May, fans bought a billboard on US 52 in Winston-Salem. It said, "Buzz Out" and "Demand accountability, REWAKE the nation."
WFMY asked WFU Athletic Director, Ron Wellman if the outward displays of disapproval weighed on the coach.
"That's difficult when you hear things that are hurtful. That can hurt someone as it would anyone. I don't think it played a role in his decision necessarily but it didn't make life pleasant all the time either," said Wellman.
