GREENSBORO, N.C. - Greensboro native Craig Spinale has dreamed of completing the Boston Marathon. In 2013, his goal to cross the finish line was cut short by the bombings near the end of the race, and Spinale wasn't allowed to finish.
This year, he is returning to Boston to finish what he started with Team Red Cross.
The American Red Cross holds a place in Spinale's heart, after the organization helped him overcome difficulty. In 1986, he was displaced from his apartment after a fire. The Red Cross provided him with clothing, money, and support until he was able to find a new place to live. Spinale says he's forever grateful for their support during such a difficult time.
Spinale will run as part of Team Red Cross. The team consists of 59 runners of all ages and abilities who support the American Red Cross mission. The team's goal is to raise $225,000 to benefit Red Cross programs and services throughout eastern Massachusetts.
