GREENSBORO, N.C. — Tony Williams survived the unimaginable. N.C. State Highway Patrol video shows a car crash into the tow truck driver last week on a highway while he was doing his job.
The car hit Williams as he was clearing a wreck on I-85 in Greensboro, near exit 220. Williams suffered broken ribs and a collapsed lung, which required emergency surgery after the near-death experience.
WFMY News 2's Liz Crawford met Tony and his wife last week in the hospital.
They hope Tony's story will encourage people to remember the Move Over Law, which requires drivers to move into another lane if law enforcement or road crews are on the side of the road. If you can't move over, the law requires that you at least slow down.
On Wednesday, WFMY was there to show Tony and Jennifer Williams the video of the crash.
"I would have never believed it was that bad if I hadn't just now seen this," said Tony
Jennifer choked back tears and put her head in her hands.
"My heart's just pounding. I don't know how he's here," said Jennifer.
Tony added, "If I hadn't been bent up inside that truck, I wouldn't be here right this minute."
