LEWISVILLE, N.C. -- A Lewisville 8th grader received a grant from Disney to help out local Triad teachers.

Jordan Jarvis, a student at Hanes Middle School, was awarded a Disney Friends for Change Youth Grant through Youth Service America. The grant will support Jordan in her mission to help teachers.

The cause is close to Jordan's heart, with her wanting to eventually become a teacher. She said she was inspired by her second and third grade teachers, Mrs. Heinrich and Mrs. Burchette, at Lewisville Elementary.

Jordan submitted a grant request to help The Educator Warehouse, a Winston-Salem facility where teachers can shop among new and gently donated items. Jordan's mom says she volunteers on a regular basis and says she wants to raise awareness about the Warehouse and how it helps teachers.

Jordan, along with a couple of her friends Friday decorated bags and wrote inspiring messages for teachers. Officials say the bags will be delivered to teachers will happen at a later date.

Service activities across the United States will take place during Global Youth Service weekend, April 11-13, the largest volunteering and service event in the world.
