Judge Set To Rule On Teacher Tenure Lawsuit Next Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wednesday, Guilford County and Durham school districts appeared in front of a judge to fight for teacher tenure.
The schools are suing the state over the teacher tenure law.
Guilford County Superior Judge Richard Doughton said he will decide next week whether to temporarily free school leaders from a new state law.
The law requires teachers to give up their tenure. School Board Member Alan Duncan said he believes the judge listened to both sides of the story closely on Wednesday.
"He wanted to look at more information" Duncan said. "I appreciate the thoughtfulness he's putting into this case."
While the schools say the law is too vague, the state said the school boards don't have legal standing to sue the state.
